gross margin

Gross income divided by net sales, expressed as a percentage.

Gross margins reveal how much a company earns taking into consideration the costs that it incurs for producing its products and/or services.

In other words, gross margin is equal to gross income divided by net sales, and is expressed as a percentage.

Gross margin is a good indication of how profitable a company is at the most fundamental level.

Companies with higher gross margins will have more money left over to spend on other business operations, such as research and development or marketing.

A memoir...

... as a literary genre, forms a sub-class of autobiography. Memoirs may appear less structured and less encompassing than formal autobiographical works. They are often about part of a life, and often a public part of one's life, rather than one's whole life, from youth to old age. -

Killing the Bear

Today I am at an onsite training enjoying the oh so sweet smell of corporate anonimity. The smell is strong here, I could smell it as soon as I walked into the building. Neat and clean, sparse and tan, cubicles all lined up so very orderly.

The place is really nice. They have special coffee (a Lavatza one point machine), and a very decent free lunch.

The mission of the day; to teach Photshop to scientists who want to know how to put Santa hats on pictures of their dogs.

These kind of jobs can be rather fun on occasion. It's sort of like being up close and personal with a Dilbert cartoon. Don't stay too long though or it gets too personal.

Hurry up, slow down

Last night you said that you didn't feel like Big Fun was moving fast enough. And I feel the same, most of the time. But my body and my mood swings say otherwise. Yesterday I said everything was fine, and I sounded happy, didn't I? I am happy, but still in a state of transition. It's not so easy to get used to an entirely new life, you know too! We have been working and working and working on this dream for a long time, and we deserve every second of relaxation, reflection, and reworking. Remember that it's only been the two of us building and filming and designing and creating. Just us for so long. Yes, it isn't moving fast enough, no we can't move any faster. Big Fun has a momentum of it's own and neither one of us have any intention of letting this massive thing stop. So have no more fear! Besides, when we're together we will get so much down. And until we're together we will prepare to be together. It's not slipping away, it's not being back shelved. Everything is as it should be at this point. We...you and me...will continue to make this go.

Hurry up, dear one, and slow down.

Progress made despite morning sloth

Better now ~
Glad I passed out - the night is good tonight.
It is cooling off now, down to 80 degrees F.
Its one of those nights where I remember that I'm an artist -
a little nook in time where I can sneak in and stop time.
Where I can get something done that I have really wanted to work on but the time wasn't ever right ~
It's right tonight

Shauna is making good progress on the design for the art space.
She is bringing the sketch I made to life on the Mac as I work away on the business plan on the PC. It feels cozy and cool in this little lair.

The plan is coming to life too. Tonight I have been typing my notes into the form I got from the "Biz Plan Builder" Files I purchased in 1999. Back when I attended the Edge... http://www.edgemastery.com/edge.html

blog titles

I went back to sleep this morning even though I felt guilty.

Now it's 1:30 here and 10:30 there and you are not answering the phone.

I'm walking around town trying to catch all these fleeting thoughts so I can remember them and put them in my blog.

I'm gardening and in the garden I'm picking up dead leaves and pulling out the weeds in between the plants I want to keep in the garden. I'm not losing hope although I forgot to water the mint plants yesterday and they looked almost dead by three o'clock when I got some water on them...

Today I went out there and they mostly survived. Today I remembered to water the early.

So while washing the dishes, I'm carrying boxes, I'm finding places to put stuff or trying to get rid of stuff. And the conversation is going on. Is this really happening? Is this really happening?

Everything is ramping up. So many shifts since we sold the house. My life looks big again. My life looks so much bigger again. Much bigger than ever. Moving here has been so good for us.

Even so, after close to nine weeks, we and I mean mostly I, are still setting up. Most importantly now is finishing my art room. My video room. My big fun room.

Yesterday I sold the green couch. Actually it was your green couch. I sold it for $100. With the money I'm having the house cleaned today. My back really appreciates it. My psyche is getting used to the idea.

Lots of that however, my psyche getting used to new ideas. And there I am at the beginning again trying to catch all these fleeting thoughts. So, I can remember them, and put them in my blog.

It's all Big Fun

The thing is, no matter what it is in life that you are trying to accomplish, it should only ever be Big Fun, Abigail taught me this. So many people are stressed about so many things, and it seems to me that we should all take a breath and remember that art and beauty and intelligence and perseverance and genius is everywhere, all the time. We are lucky to realize that we, together, get to be a stronger force in the world.
